Would you like to give a home to a French person for a few days in July? Our friends from Plaisir will be with us from 10-15 July.
Then next year we go to their house! And visit Paris!!

QUIZ NIGHT/BUFFET

Once again Roy Ames has kindly organised this popular event which is to take place at the Quayside restaurant, Broadland Holiday Village, Marsh Road, Oulton Broad on Friday 16th March 2012.

The quiz will start promptly at 7.00pm so we would ask that you arrive well before this time so that teams can be arranged. The buffet will be served at around 8.30pm.

Roy’s Quiz Nights have always proved to be very popular and we know that this year’s will be no exception. The cost for the evening, including buffet, will be ￡7 per person. If you wish to attend could you please ensure that your return slip and payment is with Caroline by Saturday 10th March.

Visit to Plaisir in May Half Term

We are definitely going, so why not join us?? Air conditioned coach, (with toilet!), from Lowestoft to Plaisir and three days out while we are there including a day in PARIS! Stay with French people and learn about what they are like and how they live. You do not need to speak French, and everything is organised for you. Don't forget your passport and toothbrush!

Free Holiday in Plaisir!!

We are hoping to go to Plaisir, Half Term in May for six days. We stay with families in the town and go out on trips, one to Paris and a couple to other places. We go by coach and you will need to pay for this. Last time it was £150 per adult, with a substantial reduction for children/students. Children need to be accompanied. In principle, we have people from Plaisir back the following year, but why not try it and see how you get on. We saw a piece in the Journal, and have been going for 16 years. Why not find more about about it by contacting one of us (see below) of come to the AGM (Town Hall 7.30 on 7 Feb).

History of site

The LPTA Site was first launched on 1 December 2000. It was rebuilt at Geocities on 4 July 2005. It was moved to Blogger on 12 August 2009.

OUR FIRST VISIT 1979

Visit from Plaisir, 2008.

The first visit was to Somerleyton, for afternoon tea.

The second day was to Norwich, to see The Arcade and Elm Hill.

On Saturday we went to Cromer….

….then on to see the seals at Blakeney.

Visit to Plaisir 2009

This was the thirtieth anniversary of our first visit to Plaisir in 1979.

On the first day (Wednesday), we walked round the town, then had a picnic in the Chateau park.

We went to the Grand Marnier "factory",

then on to a new Theatre in Plaisir. Apparently, famous singers go there to rehearse, and young Plaisirois use it, keeping them out of trouble.

Thursday was our day in Paris. Peter took us to Monmartre,

then we went on the canal St Martin. We waited for Peter to get back from parking the coach, so that he could join his daughter on the trip.

Friday, we went to Dreux, first to the Chapelle Royal,

then a walk round the town,

and finally to a wine museum.

The Museum had lots of furniture and wine making things from the older days. We had a wine and cider tasting; the wine was very young.

This is a boat used to transport the wine.

Saturday, we spent with our host families, then an early start for home on Sunday.

Can you help us?

We are hoping to create more links between Lowestoft and Plaisir, so that more people are involved. If you are involved with any sort of group and would like to be put in touch with a similar group across the Channel, let us know and we will try to help.

One way we thought we could interest people was through their children. If you know a school or group of children who would like to make some drawings that we could share with our friends in Europe, again, let us know.

As an example, below are paintings by young people depicting what they understand by "Twinning".

What we do.

Plaisir, a small but growing town in the Department of Les Yvelines, is on the N10 Paris/Dreux route. It is also twinned with towns in Austria, Germany and Portugal.

The Twinning was first talked about in 1976/77 when Mme Josephine Littman (pictured) approached Mr Andy Taylor (then Chief Executive of Waveney District Council), asking if Lowestoft would Twin with Plaisir. Our first committee was formed with Councillor Ken Turner as Chairman, and that same year a party from Plaisir, including M. Mouton, Mayor of Plaisir, joined us in Lowestoft Town Hall for the signing of a ‘Declaration of Friendship’ between the two towns. The following year, 1979, a party from Lowestoft visited Plaisir for the official Twinning Ceremony.

The main aim of the Association is to create friendships and to share the cultures of

our two countries.

Every other year, in the Spring half-term, we visit Plaisir, and the next year, at the beginning of July, the Plaisirois visit Lowestoft. We have visited Paris, Chartres, Orleans, and Dreux, the French have made visits to North Norfolk, Cambridge and Norwich. We have also explored the areas around Lowestoft and Plaisir.

Although there are people both here and in Plaisir who are delighted to receive guests but who are not able to make the return journey, those of us who accept accommodation with a family in Plaisir, are expected to offer accommodation on the return visit. Youngsters need a responsible adult and it is a long journey for very small children.

Help is always at hand for those who have no French/English, but it is rarely called upon.

At home, we have a Cheese and Wine Evening, Dinners, quiz evenings, boules and BBQ and so on. In February, there is the A.G.M. and in April, there is an inter-town quiz where we meet members of other Twinning Associations in Suffolk.
